Pituitary Awareness event

I suspect you may not know that October is pituitary awareness month. Pituitary conditions are a rare disease and include cushings, acromegaly, hypopituitarism, diabetes insipidus and prolactinoma. Many are caused by a benign tumour on the pituitary gland, that is situated near the optic nerve and result in lifelong treatment.

There is a strong need for awareness because it can take a long time to be diagnosed, with symptoms similair to other illnesses. As it is so rare even medical staff may be unfamiliar with treatment after diagnosis, which can be life saving for those on hydrocortisone or desmopressin for diabetes insipidus (not connnected to sugar diabetes).

Being a pituitary patient myself I’ve decided to have a one week event to help raise awareness. In the last week of October ending Saturday 31st I’m donating 15% of my takings in Spangles shop on Exeter Quay and from my website shop www.animalglassdesigns.co.uk. to the Pituitary Foundation. They are a UK charity that supports patients and their carers and raise awareness with valuable information and advice.

So a great opportunity to donate to a small health charity and get some Christmas presents at the same time! You can also donate directly, see their website www.pituitary.org.uk

Please do share this post to spread the word, awareness is as important as fund raising.
