Diary 1st April 1984

Before I start the first entry to my childhood diary, I will give some background information.

From about 11 years of age I’d stopped growing and was referred to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. I had many tests for a number of years to find the reason, until April 1984 when the hospital found a pituitary tumour.

For the next 30 days I’ll share my diary of before and after the diagnosis, to help raise awareness of Pituitary conditions. A contribution to the Pituitary Foundation for their 30th Anniversary would also be much appreciated, if you can afford to.

Following British tradition I was keen on the weather forecast and always started my daily diary with the days weather!

Sunday 1st April 1984

🌑 New moon………Mothering Sunday

Very sunny with blue sky in between snow showers. It was such a changeable day.

I woke up at eight this morning, god knows why! Had hardly any homework to do, which is nice, but I did do bits and bobs during the day as I felt I ought to do something:

I painted half a stone. I read about two chapters from Far from the Madding Crowd and practiced my French horn, in between learning for French oral.

Mum liked the flowers I bought yesterday and was very pleased with the card I made for her. I’m going to give up again and leave this till tomorrow, so bye!

Hello! Well carrying on, mum and I went to a concert this evening. It was the Harpenden musicale pupils concert and I was playing in our horn quintet. Some of the other players were so young and amazingly good for their age. Our quintet went ok but L had to play IB’s part as she had flu. We got back at 9pm just in time for The Professionals on TV.
